AAP Update: October 2005
I am in my fifth year as your representative on the Board of Directors of the AAP. My current “jobs” on the Board are to serve on a new Immunization Task Force, to work with staff and the Council on Community Pediatrics to develop an action plan for the AAP in the area of health disparities/health equity, and to chair the Advisory Committee to the Board on Federal Affairs. Why Does Government Have to Treat Us This Way?
The vast majority of at-risk children in America are eligible for Medicaid.  The federal government has decreed that these children shall receive comprehensive health services including the very impressive Early Periodic Screening, Diagnosis, and Treatment (EPSDT) benefit package, but has given the responsibility for determining provider payment rates to the states, and further decreed that Medicaid payment rates shall never exceed those of Medicare.
