Durham Pediatrican Bailey Webb Dies at 92


NCPS Emeritus Member Dr. Bailey Daniel Webb, age 92, died on November 24 in Durham.  She graduated from Greensboro College and taught school, then worked in the Granville County Court House before entering the University of North Carolina in 1937. In 1941 she received the first ever Ph.D. granted by the UNC School of Medicine (in biochemistry) and then entered Duke University Medical School where she received her M.D. in 1946.  In 1949, she joined Dr. Angus McBryde in pediatric practice in his office on Chapel Hill Street.  Dr. McBryde was President of the NC Pediatric Society in 1963.  Dr. Clarence Bailey joined the practice in the 1960s and the office moved to Hillandale Road in Durham.  Dr. Webb is remembered as a skilled and compassionate pediatrician who volunteered at Lincoln Community Health Center after her retirement in 1987.   She was known for her “personal” approach to caring for her patients.
