U.S. Surgeon General addresses the NC State Health Director’s Conference |

The U.S. Surgeon General Regina Benjamin, MD, a family physician from Alabama, addressed the NC State Health Director’s Conference on Thursday, January 26. Dr. Benjamin is a personable and popular speaker for the Obama Administration’s effort to reform our health care system and to promote obesity prevention and treatment. Laura Gerald, MD, FAAP, was introduced as the new State Health Director. She will take office on February 1 when Jeff Engel, MD, State Health Director since 2009, will move to the Secretary of DHHS office as a policy advisor. Dr. Gerald is a past Secretary of the NCPS and member of the Executive Committee. She is a native of Robeson County. |

Join us at the Bank of America Stadium, home of the Carolina Panthers, to help to raise awareness and educate local schools and communities about the importance of providing access to nutrient-rich foods and opportunities to be physically active in schools.

Fuel Up to Play 60 is an in-school nutrition and physical education program that encourages healthier eating and at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day.
Health and wellness professionals – including registered dietitians, family physicians, pediatricians and school nutrition professionals – are essential in helping students understand how to live long, healthy lives by making nutritious food choices and getting daily physical activity.

Support the NCPS Foundation in the Great Human Race 5k run/walk. For the price of one well-child visit ($80.33) you can help us meet our $20,000 goal!
The race takes place in Durham on March 24, 2012 and is a 5K run and community walk to raise funds for a variety of non profits. We’re actively recruiting runners, walkers, and fundraisers in order to meet our fundraising goal. |
