NCPeds Members Honored with AAP Special Achievement Awards

Congratulations to NCPeds members Debbie Ainsworth and Molly Berkoff for being awarded American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Special Achievement Awards for their distinguished service and dedication to the mission and goals of the AAP.

Debbie Ainsworth, MD, FAAP, is being honored for outstanding service in leading Medicaid Reform and for her work in assuring pediatric representation in key Medicaid Reform infrastructure.

Debbie is the owner of Washington Pediatrics inWashington, NC and is the current Past President of NCPeds.

Molly Berkoff, MD, FAAP, is being recognized for her tireless work to support increasing rates paid for Child Medical Evaluations to assure strong timely care of a vulnerable population that includes children for whom abuse or neglect is suspected.

Molly serves asAssociate Professor andMedical Director of the Child Medical Evaluation Program and Child Protection Team at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Debbie and Molly will receive their awards at the NCPeds Annual meeting which will be held Sept. 14-16 in Myrtle Beach.

For nearly 30 years, Debbie Ainsworth has been working with families and children in theWashington, NC area.

She joined the staff at Washington Pediatrics in 1990 and has enjoyed developing long-term relationships with her patients and their families.

"I think it's the relationship that I've developed with the families over time and helping families work through whatever it is they need to work through that I like best," she said.

She became active in NCPeds early in her career and has served in various positions on the board of directors and in the Policy and Legislative Committee and Oversight of Health Choice Committee.

"NCPeds is about the connections that you make with people across the state.There have been tons of people who have been mentors to me on how to lead, advocate, present an issue and make your case known," Debbie said.

She lives in Washington, NC with her family and enjoys gardening in her community's garden which provides fruits and vegetables to a local food pantry and families in need.
