N.C. Pediatric Society Announces 2024 Pediatric Excellence Awards

Throughout its 2024 Annual Meeting, the North Carolina Pediatric Society (NCPeds) will recognize and honor its 2024 pediatric excellence award winners. These awards celebrate the individuals and organizations who have shared in NCPeds’ vision that each and every North Carolina child grows up healthy and thrives. The NCPeds Annual Meeting will be held Aug. 23-25, 2024. “From groundbreaking genetics and newborn screening research to improving public health strategies involving firearms to addressing health equity issues to recognizing one of NCPeds longtime staff members, this year’s NCPeds award winners truly embody the spirit of our organization,” said Kenya McNeal-Trice, MD, FAAP, President of NCPeds. “Each of these recipients has made an enormous contribution to the children and adolescents in our state, and we are happy to honor them with these awards.” Award | Recipient | Award Description | Excellence in Public Service to Children Award | Elizabeth Cuervo Tilson, MD, MPH, FAAP | Recognizes her collaborative work to use public health strategies to reduce firearm injury and death. | Excellence in Public Service to Children Award | William L. Lassiter | Recognizes his collaborative work to use public health strategies to reduce firearm injury and death. | Outstanding Academic Service Award | Cynthia M. Powell, MD, MS, FAAP | Recognizes her groundbreaking work in genetics and newborn screening as well as her trusted partnership with pediatricians across North Carolina. | Child Health Advocacy Award | Impact Alamance | Recognizes the organization’s work to support the health and well-being of marginalized children and others using a strong equity lens. | Outstanding Service to the NC Pediatric Society Award | Kim Day, CPA | Recognizes her two decades of work in keeping NCPeds’ finances in order with a cool head, kind heart and collegial spirit. | Outstanding Achievement Award | Wissam Nadra, MD, FAAP, ABIHM | Recognizes his community’s regard and appreciation for the care he provides their children. | Outstanding Community Service Award | Kimberly Montez, MD, MPH, FAAP | Recognizes her exceptional work in addressing equity and social determinants of health while also demonstrating excellence as a clinician, researcher and educator. |
In addition, three North Carolina pediatricians were recently recognized by the American Academy of Pediatrics with national Special Achievement Awards.
