NCPeds and NCAFP COVID-19 Impact Survey Results (May 2020)

As North Carolina continues to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic, the NC Pediatric Society and the NC Academy of Family Physicians conducted a second survey of practicing primary care physicians that ultimately included responses from approximately 500 pediatricians and family physicians. The survey was conducted April 30th-May 4th.

Findings show that primary care physicians continue to suffer extreme financial distress - even worse than just a month ago. Nearly two-thirds reported a 40 percent or more drop in patient volume. Likewise, primary care physicians continue to struggle with with obtaining adequate Protective Equipment (PPE).

Support since our last survey was well-received, as indicated by the high percentage of physicians who have been able to transition to telehealth. While physicians have been able to access much-needed PPE, it remains and will likely remain an ongoing need that we must monitor.

Elizabeth Hudgins, executive director of NCPeds, together with Gregory Griggs, executive director of NCAFP, sent a second joint letter to NC Secretary of Health Dr. Mandy Cohen. Please see below for the letter in full.
